The Rade de Brest
A paradise for water sports enthusiasts
The Rade de Brest is a large 180 km² bay linked to the Iroise Sea by a 1.8 km-wide passage named the Goulet de Brest (sheltered from storms and almost closed off by the Roscanvel peninsular).
A trip to Brest wouldn’t be complete without a sail or swim somewhere round the Rade! Enjoy the likes of sailing, windsurfing, kite-surfing, stand-up paddling and underwater diving. Indeed, though it may be a commercial port, Brest is above all a seaside town, with Brittany’s top pleasure port.
You can also explore the Rade by motorboat or an old-style sailing vessel. Aboard the classic boat La Recouvrance, you can spend a day or half day sailing across the Rade de Brest – perfect for watching the sunset or experiencing a special moment with family or friends.
