The Lagatjar Alignments
Standing high above Camaret
At the base of the three points which give the municipality of Camaret-sur-Mer its distinctive outline stands a field of upright stones. These rocks are a reminder that this extreme point of the peninsular has been inhabited for thousands of years.
Erected around the same time as the Carnac stone alignments further south, the Lagatjar Alignments numbered 600 menhirs in 1776 (according to 18th century geographer Jean Ogée’s dictionary, information given in a survey established by the National Convention in 1793).
